I recently decided to close the large dental gap in between my two front teeth. I am about 1/2 way through my Invisalign treatment and I am now starting to see the physical difference of my smile. This isn't the first time I have committed myself to physicly altering medical treatment to fix what I do not like about my appearance. People have complimented me on my gap, but in my head I took it as a form of mocking. I was told before that my smile is one of my best attributes, however the compliment came from my mother (she has a gap too).
Since I was a kid in school, I wanted to close it because it was the source of cruel teasing. Because of finances braces were never an option. Any time I was teased, my gap would be the point of focus. "Shut up with your ugly rabbit gap teeth" I would get teased more about by gap rather than the fact that I also wore glasses.
No one has teased me for at least a decade, however my gap is a physical unattractive flaw. Although, I'm sure others could not care less about the arraignment of my dental structure, I still feel the need to close it. I know that now I am closing it for me, and not to silence my teasers.
Beauty comes from within, and confidence is the best accessory!

Work It On Out
I just recently joined a local gym. My initial reason for joining was to help me train for a marathon. After a few weeks of working out, I can honestly say it feels great physically, ,mentally and emotionally. One day after a great work out I felt like Jim Carrey's character Vera Demilo from the show "In Living Color"

Natural Hair Sunday
I just discovered "Natural Hair Sunday" on Twitter! It is awesome. Natural Hair Sunday is many naturally curly hair women posting positive affirmations about wearing your hair the way it grows from your head minus chemical straighteners. The simple hashtag #NaturalHair unites so many women and their coils.
I am so excited by my new discovery!

Happy New Start?
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
For some reason I always want to add the "s" at the end and make it Happy New Years! LOL! But here we go again making resolutions. My resolution last year was to save money and practice yoga. I didn't take my first yoga class until the end of November and I ended the year with $75 in my bank account. Sad right? I still felt somewhat accomplished, because I still did it... but just not as glorious as I wished for. (Master Yogi, doing head stands and back bends) I still haven't grasped the basic chaturanga) My thought this year is why bother! Don't get me wrong I still have goals and tasks I plan to accomplish this year. For example I want to run races, and eventually a marathon. I also would like to host a fundraiser or a big community service event.
I feel that I can continue become my best self without naming a resolution.
Umm...does that count as a resolution too?
My favorite quote from Food4Spirit to keep me motivated when going through something difficult.
Jesus did not need a calm sea,...He only needed to get to the other side. If the way to the other side was through a terrible storm, so be it. He trusted God to get him there.

Communication 101
Think of how many ways you can have a conversation with someone
* on the phone
* Instant Messenger
* Video Messenger
* Facebook
* Twitter
* Email (I have 4 accounts)
* Text
* BBM ( If you have one of those horrible things)
Am I for getting something? Oh yeah... talking in person.

Comic Calling
Everybody says I missed my calling, I should be a stand up comic. Do
you really get a calling? Like the nuns do? Do you know after watching Sister Act I thought about being a nun?
But what kinda comic would I be? (What kind of nun would I be?)
One who takes everyday life fucntions and over analizes them into
something funny? Like... I was drinking a cup of water? or the over
observers who say " Have you ever noticed..."? And to be a comic do I need research? Do I need to sit with my mentor?
Ahh I see what kind of comic I would be! The one who questions everything.

4 Years Natural. (Style and Trial)
It has been four years since I started wearing my hair in its natural texture. I have not straightened it! Not even once. No blow out, no press-n-curl, no flat iron. No trim either :( (I am trying to hold on to every centimeter of length). Unless you count my visit to the African braid shops on 125th , I haven't been to a salon since 2007. I am always afraid that they are going to cut my hair or give me some crazy color to make me look like a monkey boy.
The past four years has been a continuing search for styling options. My mission is to show that natural hair can look professional. However it is difficult because most of the styles that I am able to do on my own make me look like a kid. Almost as if I'm getting ready for sandbox time!
God Bless those who have the patience for straw sets and flexi- rods!
For me a "Good Hair Day" is a day when my hair is not the topic of the day or the levee for a flood of questions. “How did you get it like that?” “How long did it take?” “ Does it hurt?” “ Do you wash it like that? “ “Will it look like that every day from now on?” (I’ve gotten far worse)
I love to see other women with natural hair and it is part of my motivation. Why do I feel such a battle putting the weave back in? Not like anyone at my job cares if I look professional or not. (One time I wore dress slacks to work. And everyone asked me why I was so dressed up. Someone even asked me if I had a job interview somewhere else)
If it were not for PrettyDimples1 on Youtube.com I would be so lost. Thanks to her I got a lot of style ideas and hair care tips.
